Coffee with Character
It was ‘Movember ‘ (a charity drive held in November) and moustaches were everywhere you looked; this idea came about as all the best ideas do… whilst waiting for a coffee!
Whilst staring at the coffee machine (more like daydreaming as I was a grand total of zero coffees into my day at this point…) I noticed that the there was a face staring back at me. It was a bit of a long sad face, so I quickly decided it needed cheering up and what cheers a person up more than a moustache!
The design was simple; a quick search for moustache vectors and using that as a guide to trace over, as nothing on the internet is exactly what you want somehow? A quick extrude or two with some measurements from the coffee machine to line the mounts up with the grille panel and Bob’s your Uncle… or perhaps your Barista!
Looking at it over coffee number 2 for the day, the moustache appeared lonely. But never fear a solution was quickly found in giving him some glasses. The design I settled on are what is known as ‘Pince-nez’ and work by pinching the nose to hold them in place instead of the more traditional over ear glasses. This was a bit more back and forth to get the dimensions right and unfortunately the pinching part isn’t really that effective on hard plastic, so a discreet mount had to be built into the design.
Further development would have seen a nice little fez to match that could have stored a coffee capsule as a decorative yet functional piece and my dreams of a personal Turkish Coffee Barista in my house would be nearly complete…
This didn’t result in a product as it became apparent all too quickly that the myriad styles of coffee machines would make it difficult to roll this out en-masse however we are always happy to revisit this if anyone should wish to.
